Montréal, October 10, 2024 — Laurentides residents Jocelyne Cournoyer and Pierre Millette won the $1,000,000 top prize in the September 14 Extra draw. The lucky ticket was purchased at the Metro grocery store in Mont-Laurier. The couple shared the news with the children during a highly emotional day.
Highlights
- The Cournoyer-Millette couple split the tasks: he purchased the ticket, and she checked it with the Lotteries app.
- When she saw their prize on-screen, she had to look at it several times to believe it!
- She then tried to call her daughter to share the great news but to no avail. Her daughter works in the woods and had no network reception when Cournoyer tried to call. Only later did she see the many messages and missed calls all at once and wondered what could have happened to cause such a commotion.
- Announcing it to her son was easier—Cournoyer just asked him to check the ticket. “His eyes popped out of his head, just like in cartoons!” said the winner.
- The couple recently acquired a vacant lot and plans to use their prize money to spend more time in nature. They have a tractor, landscaping and moose hunting in their sights!
