Lotto MaxA Montérégie entrepreneur and a Montréal retiree win the $70,000,000 jackpot

Lotto MaxA Montérégie entrepreneur and a Montréal retiree win the $70,000,000 jackpot

Montréal, July 16, 2025 — Montérégie resident Jacques Deschamps and Montréal resident Wilhelmina Van Leewen held the two winning tickets of the $70,000,000 jackpot in the July 11 Lotto Max draw. The lucky winners received their prize during a press conference at the Loto-Québec head office on July 16.

Waking up to an unforgettable moment

  • Jacques Deschamps regularly buys Lotto Max tickets, always with Extra.
  • Early Saturday morning, as usual, he checked his tickets with the Loto-Québec app while having his coffee. At first, he thought the displayed prize was $3,500, then $35,000.
  • Intrigued, he asked his spouse to check the ticket, too, which she did with her own phone. She then quipped, stunned, “You won 35 million!”
  • Deschamps hurried to send his son, who was still sleeping, a photo of the winning ticket. Impatient, he and his spouse called his home to ask their daughter-in-law to wake him up, as exciting news awaited him!
  • In terms of plans, Deschamps wants to spoil his family, of course, and continue travelling to explore the world. He’d also like to buy a condo in Montréal.
  • Deschamps purchased his ticket at the Chanteclerc convenience store at 290 Rue Jacques-Cartier in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. The retailer will receive a 1% commission of $350,000.

“You're going to be happy!”

Wilhelmina Van Leeuwen found out she was the winner of the other half of the jackpot when she had some tickets validated at a retailer on Tuesday night. He told her, “You're going to be happy!” The next morning, Van Leeuwen was at the Loto-Québec head office to receive her check. She said she wants to treat herself to a few trips... in first class!

She bought her ticket at the Dépanneur du Village at 1273 Rue Sainte-Catherine Est in Montréal. This retailer will also receive a $350,000 commission.

Quote

“This is the second time in a matter of weeks that the Lotto Max jackpot has been won in Québec. At the beginning of June, 15 Trois-Rivières co-workers split a $20,000,000 jackpot, and this time, a $70,000,000 jackpot was won with two selections sold here, including Mr. Deschamps',” mentioned Isabelle Jean, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games at Loto-Québec.
