CSN-affiliated Employees at Québec Casinos Declare Strike Without WarningCasinos in Montréal, Lac-Leamy and Charlevoix remain open; Mont-Tremblant shuts down for a few hours

Montréal, June 15, 2023 — Loto-Québec operations are maintained at the Casino de Montréal, Casino de Charlevoix and Casino du Lac-Leamy despite the strike without warning declared by CSN-affiliated employees. On the other hand, the Casino de Mont-Tremblant must shut down for a few hours to organize the resumption of operations and is expected to reopen tomorrow.

Staff will be in place at all casinos to welcome customers from Friday to Monday, although certain services may be limited. Details are available on the casinos’ website.

Other locations remain open

The Salon de jeux de Trois-Rivières and Salon de jeux de Québec are open according to their regular hours. The lotoquebec.com site is also available; however, the call centre is closed during the strike.

Attractive working conditions

Because employees are at the heart of its activities, Loto-Québec is committed to offering good working conditions. In fact, casino employees’ overall remuneration is attractive, particularly insofar as salaries, incentive pay, the many allowances and the defined benefit pension plan are concerned.

Loto-Québec is disappointed that the union has decided to strike without warning instead of remaining at the negotiating table, especially considering the two generous and comprehensive monetary offers that were tabled over the last few months. These offers make it possible to meet the challenges of attraction and retention and to face the current economic situation. Agreements in principle on both the normative and monetary components were reached locally at the casinos last December.

The value of the union’s demands more than doubles what was agreed upon with the rest of the organization’s employees over the last year. In fact, seven other collective agreements for employees within the same job categories were renewed at the casinos in 2022, to the satisfaction of all parties.

Loto-Québec believes it is important to focus its efforts on serious and constructive discussions, so the situation can be settled equitably for all its employees while ensuring that public funds are managed in a sound fashion.
