Loto-Québec announces hotel construction on Casino de Montréal grounds

Montréal, December 18, 2023 — Loto-Québec is happy to announce the construction of a 200-room hotel on the grounds of the Casino de Montréal. This promising project will enhance the casino’s entertainment offer and cement its reputation as a prime tourist destination. Most casinos on the same scale as the Casino de Montréal also provide an entertainment offer that extends to accommodations.

A project that respects the environment

The project centres on respecting the unique character of Parc Jean-Drapeau, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary. Therefore, Loto-Québec supports a low-height building design. Thanks to its outstanding architectural signature, the hotel will blend in with its surroundings while preserving the natural beauty of the landscape. The corporation will also ensure that construction will uphold the highest sustainability standards to minimize the environmental impact. It will soon launch calls for tenders to begin the hotel design process.

An asset for the corporation

Loto-Québec will be the sole owner of the hotel, which is expected to welcome its first guests within two to three years. It will soon choose a renowned hotel partner with which to join forces. The project represents an investment of nearly $150 million. The revenues it generates will benefit the entire Québec community. The hotel will join the Hilton Lac-Leamy and Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu as part of Loto-Québec’s real estate portfolio.

“The Casino de Montréal has been a landmark in this city for 30 years. We’re very proud to announce the construction of this hotel as it’ll move the casino to the top among the best entertainment destinations. Its location at the heart of Parc Jean-Drapeau will put this hotel in a class all by itself. It’ll showcase Montréal beautifully,” said Jean-François Bergeron, President and Chief Executive Officer at Loto-Québec.

“The Casino de Montréal is a major tourist attraction that welcomes several million visitors annually. Adding a hotel on the casino grounds will enhance its attractiveness and further increase Montréal’s visibility on the world stage. This is great news as this project aligns perfectly with one of our goals, which is to continue developing the hotel offer. Tourism is a powerful economic development driver. It generates substantial benefits for our communities across Québec,” noted Caroline Proulx, Minister of Tourism and Minister Responsible for the Lanaudière Region.

“Providing Parc Jean-Drapeau with a master plan that ensures the protection of its exceptional environment and guarantees the sustainability of the projects developed on its grounds was critical for our administration. Loto-Québec’s hotel project is completely in line with our commitment to provide our residents and visitors with opportunities to enjoy nature in the city. This new accommodation offer strives for the highest environmental standards and will further enhance the attractiveness of Parc Jean-Drapeau, which is already a prime destination dear to the Montréal community’s heart,” added Ville de Montréal Mayor Valérie Plante.
