Montréal, February 25, 2020 — Capitale-Nationale resident Jean-Daniel Roy scratched his way to a $1 million win with a 1 Million $ royal scratch ticket. The money will provide a nice financial cushion for the young winner who’s only just recently gone back to school.

In summary

  • Lottery: 1 Million $ royal
  • Prize: $1,000,000
  • Category: Grand prize
  • Claim date: February 20, 2020
  • Winner’s place of residence: Capitale-Nationale
  • Retailer: Dépanneur Rose (350 Rue Lafayette, Québec City)
  • The retailer will receive a 1% commission of $10,000.
  • Claim centre: Loto-Québec office in Québec City

Highlights

  • Jean-Daniel remembers leaning on the dryer to scratch the ticket. It was just before he was set to leave and meet up with his girlfriend. “When I saw that I had a number 11 with the words un million written underneath it... I think I must’ve checked and double-checked the ticket about 52 times—I just couldn’t believe it!” said the winner.

  • “It took a good half-hour for it to sink in that I’d actually won,” he added.

  • Jean-Daniel wasted no time in letting his girlfriend and parents in on the good news.

  • A trip to the West Coast is one thing he says he plans on treating himself to with his windfall.

  • It’ll also bring some financial security to the winner, who’s only just recently gone back to school.
