The Foundation for Athletic Excellence Bursary Program supports 15 athletes
Montreal, May 2, 2019 – Loto-Québec is pleased to announce the names of the 15 talented athletes who will share a total of $40,000 in individual bursaries ranging from $2,000 to $3,000 as part of the 12th edition of its Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) Bursary Program.
Highlights
- Loto-Québec’s bursaries reserved for athletes with physical or sensory limitations were awarded at the Claude-Robillard sports complex during the Défi sportif AlterGo event, of which Loto-Québec is one of the main sponsors.
- Among the fifteen 2019 recipients are Antoine Lehoux, who is now representing the country at the World Hockey Championship, and Charles Moreau, currently holding second place in H3 classification at the World Para-Cycling Championship.
- Loto-Québec’s Bursary Program was developed in cooperation with Défi sportif AlterGo, a key player in sports for disabled athletes, and is managed by the FAEQ in cooperation with sports organizations that support athletes with physical or sensory limitations, including Parasports Québec, Association québécoise de sports pour paralytiques cérébraux (AQSPC), Association sportive des aveugles du Québec (ASAQ), Hockey Québec, Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes (FQSC), Fédération de natation du Québec (FNQ) and Fédération de tennis de table du Québec (FTTQ).
Quotes
“Loto-Québec is proud to have awarded close to $500,000 in bursaries for the development of one hundred athletes since the start of the program. Our main objective is to showcase the talent of exceptional athletes in a variety of sports. They must overcome great challenges and deserve to have their efforts and successes celebrated, and we are pleased that our financial support will help them reach their goals”, said Éric Meunier, Loto-Québec’s Director, Responsible Gaming and Social Commitment.
“The drive to excel exhibited by Loto-Québec Bursary recipients only comes second to their courage and resilience. As I always say, society as a whole benefits from their quest for excellence in their every endeavour, and especially when they take part in the Paralympic Games,” said Claude Chagnon, President of the FAEQ.
