$1,000,000Saguenay‑Lac‑Saint‑Jean: A future bride and groom win the Extra grand prize

Montréal, August 15, 2019 — Paméla Fradette and Michael Lapointe, a couple from Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, took home $1,000,000 in the August 2 Extra draw. The two lovebirds say that it’s been a roller coaster of emotions since finding out the news. And they’re now planning to tie the knot, so things aren’t slowing down any time soon!

Family, friends and members of the media gathered today at a press conference at Hotel Chicoutimi to celebrate the couple’s big win. The retailer who sold them the ticket was also in attendance.

Highlights

  • Paméla and Michael have always added Extra to the lottery tickets they buy every week.

  • Upon hearing that Loto-Québec was looking for a winner in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean area who had yet to claim the grand prize in the August 2 Extra draw, Paméla decided to check their ticket.

  • She used Loto-Québec’s app to check the numbers—which is when she found out they’d won.

  • The young winner’s reaction was instant. “I freaked out!” she told us. She immediately dialled her now-fiancé to tell him the good news. When she told him they’d won $1,000,000, Michael couldn’t believe it.

  • The winners say they have every intention of enjoying their $1,000,000, and are planning—among other things–to renovate their home and get married.
