132 new millionairesRecord year for Québec lottery players!

Montréal, January 5, 2018 – Loto-Québec’s 132 new millionaires made 2017 the luckiest year ever for Québec lottery players!

The previous record, established in 2016, was 104 prizes of $1,000,000 or more.

“The year 2017 was an exceptional one, with three grand prizes of $60,000,000, which is the largest jackpot amount ever paid out by Loto-Québec, and a total of more than a billion dollars awarded in prizes to Quebecers,” remarked Isabelle Jean, President of Lottery Operations and Vice President of Public Affairs.
 

The 10 largest prizes won in 2017 in Québec

  • January 6 – $60,000,000 at Lotto Max – Montérégie and Centre-du-Québec
    The year 2017 got off with a bang when a group of 28 relatives from the Montérégie and Centre-du-Québec regions won a $60,000,000 prize at the January 6 Lotto Max draw.
     
  • February 10 – $60,000,000 at Lotto Max – Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean
    On February 10, a couple of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean pocketed a $60,000,000 Lotto Max prize. Marie-Josée Picard and Carl Villeneuve shared their winnings with members of their family.
     
  • December 22 – $60,000,000 at Lotto Max – Montréal
    The year ended as it began with yet another $60,000,000 prize! A group of nine Montréal co-workers won this nifty sum at the Lotto Max draw of December 22.
     
  • April 21 – $55,000,000 at Lotto Max – Montréal
    On April 21, Lotto Max surprised Montréal residents Nathalie Langlais and Gilles Rosnen with a prize of $55,000,000.
     
  • June 2 – $55,000,000 at Lotto Max – Estrie
    On June 2, Estrie resident Ann-Marie Francis also won $55,000,000 at Lotto Max.
     
  • January 21 – $25,000,000 at Lotto 6/49 – Outaouais, Montréal and Laurentides
    Outaouais resident Marc Lachance pocketed $25,000,000 at the January 21 Lotto 6/49 draw. He split his prize with his brother, Alain Lachance, and sisters, Geneviève and Christine Lachance, residents of the Laurentides region and Montréal. The Lotto 6/49 Guaranteed Prize was also won in the Outaouais on the same night!
     
  • August 4 – $23,017,319 at Lotto Max – Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean
    A group of 27 Saguenay city hall co-workers shared a prize of $23,017,319 at the Lotto Max draw of August 4.
     
  • September 6 – $16,042,016 at Lotto 6/49 – Montréal, Lanaudière and Montérégie
    Five people split the more than $16-million prize at the September 6 draw Lotto 6/49. The purchased their group shares from a retailer. After the big win, one of the winners asked his girlfriend to marry him! The owner of the Shell station in Pointe-aux-Trembles, where the winning ticket was bought, paid for a tropical vacation for all his employees using the 1% prize awarded to the retailer.
     
  • October 27 – $15,000,000 at Lotto Max – Montréal
    Montréal resident Alain De Bellefeuille walked away with the $15,000,000 jackpot at the October 27 Lotto Max draw.
     
  • May 24 – $12,715,949 at Lotto 6/49 – Montréal
    Two days after his birthday, Montréal resident Enzo Di Gneo became a millionaire by winning the $12,715,949 jackpot at the May 24 Lotto 6/49 draw.

 

Lotto Max is generous with Quebecers

  • 21 people won $1,000,000 Guaranteed Prizes at Lotto 6/49.
  • The lottery Grande Vie produced 16 winners of lifetime annuities or lump sums.
  • The scratch ticket Gagnant à vie! produced 11 winners of $1,000 a week for life and 2 winners of $100,000 a year for life.
  • The ticket 100 $ ultime awarded 20 prizes of $1,000,000.
  • 15 prizes of $1,000,000 were won at Extra.
  • Thanks to Québec Max and Québec 49, 11 prizes of $1,000,000 or more were awarded.

 

Big amounts awarded online and at the Casino

The new PowerbucksTM progressive jackpot at casinos and on Espacejeux.com also made a lot of people happy in Québec this year:

  • On April 30, Laval resident Marc Bruneau and his spouse Lise Boucher left the Casino de Montréal $1,700,000 richer after wagering just $15.
  • On July 17, Côte-Nord resident Chantal Bouchard won $1,000,000 on Espacejeux.com.
  • On July 24, Chaudière-Appalaches resident Jules Parent won $1,222,069 at Crown of EgyptTM on Espacejeux.com. Fun fact, the lucky winner won $1,000,000 at Lotto 6/49 in 2008!
  • September 21, Laval resident Serge Gamache won the Powerbucks progressive jackpot of $1,152,714 while playing online.

 

To end the year, Montréal resident Chi Hoc Huynh won $1,825,000 at a slot machine called Grand Prix after wagering approximately $30. He will remember this December 26 trip to the casino for a long time to come.
