Extra$1,000,000: A Centre-du-Québec couple become millionaires

Montréal, June 28, 2016 – Centre-du-Québec couple Mario Guillemette and Christine Morin pocketed the $1,000,000 grand prize at the Extra draw of June 15.

In brief
• Lottery: Extra
• Prize won: $1,000,000
• Draw date: June 15, 2016
• Winner’s place of residence: Centre-du-Québec
• Retailer: Couche-Tard (4014 Boulevard Saint-Joseph, Drummondville)
• The retailer will receive a 1% prize of $10,000.
• Claim centre: Loto-Québec headquarters, Montréal

Winners’ reactions
• Once a month, Mr. Guillemette goes to the same retailer and replays the same selections, meaning he always keeps the same number for Extra.
• When he saw the mention “winning ticket” appear on the self-serve ticket checker, he didn’t know how much he had won.
• So he asked the clerk to tell him, thinking he had won $1,000.
• When she told him he had won $1,000,000, Mr. Guillemette didn’t believe her.
• With the validation coupon in hand, he called his spouse to tell her of their luck. She couldn’t believe it either!

Quotes
• “I still can't believe this is happening and that we are here today at Loto-Québec!” Mr. Guillemette admitted after claiming his prize.
• “It was truly a pleasure to meet this lucky and very down-to-earth couple. Mr. Guillemette and Ms. Morin enjoyed their experience with our team and thanked us several times,” said Christine Lento, of Loto-Québec’s customer service department.
• “When we first spoke, Mr. Guillemette was too moved to have a conversation. I spoke to his spouse more often. The two were very happy but also very nervous. They were so afraid that it was a mistake that they didn’t allow themselves to let their expectations sink in until the win was officially confirmed,” she added.
