Grande VieA new chapter for a retiree: He wins $1,000 a day for life a few days before Halloween!

Montréal, October 31, 2024 — A few days before Halloween, Richard Plante got a surprise that was far from being scary: A Loto-Québec representative informed him that he’d won the Grande Vie jackpot of $1,000 a day for life! The Lanaudière resident took home the lifetime annuity with a ticket purchased on lotoquebec.com for the October 28 draw. He celebrated receiving his prize at a press conference at the Loto-Québec head office on Halloween.

Highlights

  • Plante regularly plays Grande Vie on his phone.
  • Since he bought his ticket online, Plante received a call from a Loto-Québec representative the day after the draw urging him to check his results on lotoquebec.com. “Wow! $1,000 a day!? It’s unreal!” said the lucky winner.
  • He told us he’d hoped to win the Grande Vie $25,000 lifetime annuity someday but never expected to win the top prize of $1,000 a day for life. “Let’s just say my projects will be bigger!” he quipped.
  • Plante then called his spouse at work to share the news. “She couldn’t believe it when I told her the amount. I suggested she leave work early!”
  • Before retiring in 2018, Plante worked as an operator at a Montréal brewery.
  • He plans to use his windfall to spoil his spouse of 40 years and encourage her to retire early.

“Québec lottery players had a very lucky fall. They won several major prizes recently. The Grande Vie top prize was awarded in Québec three times in 2024,” says Isabelle Jean, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games at Loto-Québec.
