Montréal, August 15, 2017 – Québec City residents Gina-Lita Therrien and Yvon Turgeon won $6,437,793 at the Lotto 6/49 draw of August 12. The couple shares the $12,875,586 jackpot with a winning ticket holder from Ontario.

  • Ms. Therrien is an early-riser. At around 5:30 a.m., she checked her Lotto 6/49 ticket.
  • She had carefully chosen her numbers and knew them by heart.
  • Everything went blurry and surreal when she realized that the numbers on the screen were the same as the ones on her ticket.
  • She immediately went to her husband, Yvon, and said: “Wake up! I think we won the lottery!”
  • He went to the convenience store and confirmed that they had actually won the jackpot.
  • Ms. Therrien kept saying: “Are you sure we won? Are you sure we won?”
  • When he arrived at Loto-Québec, everything still seemed unreal for the couple: “When the assistant at the counter confirmed our win, we felt like we were on a cloud!” confided Ms. Therrien.
  • Ms. Therrien has several ideas of what to do with their new-found fortune including going back to school to study languages, continuing to work just to splurge every paycheck, begin a creative project with her spouse.
  • The couple had already planned a week’s vacation: “The timing is perfect. We’ll be able to take some time to let the dust settle and take in all that this big win means,” said Ms. Therrien.
