Giving back is a win-win

Giving Back Is a Win-Win

Giving back is a win-win brings together actions that embody Loto-Québec’s commitment to giving back to the community. Both customers and employees have multiple ways to contribute!

Indeed, many initiatives and support or solidarity projects are implemented each year. Through its collective and charitable commitment, Loto-Québec supports a host of causes dear to Quebecers.

Exceptional Athletes

At Loto-Québec, we’re committed to giving back to the community, by supporting athletes living with a disability and portraying them in a positive light. To that end, we’ve been supporting the following organizations for many years.

ALTERGO

Including people with functional limitations and promoting universal accessibility for all—those are the driving forces behind AlterGo (website in French), an organization that uses sports, recreation and culture to bring people together and achieve its goals.

Since 1993, we’ve partnered with Défi sportif AlterGo (webpage in French), a one-of-a-kind event that brings together more than 8,000 athletes. It’s Canada’s largest annual multi-sport event. To help people understand the challenges faced by those living with a disability, the public is invited to try out an adapted sport at the Loto‑Québec Trial Zone. Volunteers and even athletes are on site for the event.

FONDATION ALÉO

Loto-Québec has partnered with the Fondation Aléo (website in french) since 2007, awarding bursaries to some 15 para athletes every year. Through the Programme de bourses Loto-Québec, the Fondation Aléo recognizes the achievements of athletes with a physical or sensory limitation. Several bursary recipients have made—or will soon be making—their mark on the international stage.

In addition to awarding scholarships to the next generation of para athletes, the foundation provides support services. Its approach is personalized, and athletes’ holistic development and well-being are central to its actions.

Check out the profiles of three inspiring athletes we’re showcasing in our Au-delà du sport video series.

Sofia Fassi-Fehri, athlete – Wheelchair basketball

Loto-Québec x Fondation Aléo bursary recipient from 2022 to 2024

Meet Sofia Fassi-Fehri, a wheelchair basketball player. When her life was turned upside down, Sofia discovered the adapted sports community. It was there that she developed her exceptional talent. An accomplished athlete, she even represented Canada at the Paris Games!

Marian Catalin Barbu, athlete – Para swimming

Loto-Québec x Fondation Aléo bursary recipient in 2024

Meet Marian Catalin Barbu, a para swimmer. Unfortunately, a fracture ended his dream of heading to Paris, but it’s just a temporary setback. This young athlete, born with brittle bones, isn’t giving up, and he’s continuing his training in the hope of making it to the Los Angeles Games in 2028.

Philippe Bédard, retired athlete – Wheelchair tennis

Loto-Québec x Fondation Aléo bursary recipient from 2010 to 2016

Meet Philippe Bédard, a retired wheelchair tennis athlete. After representing Canada in international competitions, Philippe shares how sport is still such an important part of his life, and how he’s now making a career out of helping people who use wheelchairs.

Special Olympics Quebec

Special Olympics Quebec’s mission is to enrich the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through sport. It offers 17 sports for them to choose from and gives them the chance to compete in a friendly and nurturing environment. Nearly 1,500 coaches, health professionals and volunteer guides support them.

Thanks to Special Olympics Quebec activities, they can become aware of their potential and boost their self-confidence. We’ve been supporting this organization for over 15 years.

Bingo en réseau

Many non-profit organizations (NPOs) and their selfless volunteers work closely with their communities on a daily basis. Over 400 of them can count on the support of Loto-Québec and its network of affiliated bingo halls. These halls are present in 12 regions.

As part of the Let’s give back to NPOs, which will be held in October, Loto-Québec will be donating a total of $25,000 to the NPOs affiliated with the bingo hall where the jackpot is won. What’s more, the jackpot winner’s prize will be increased to $50,000.

Détaillants de cœur

Québec retailers are important members of their communities. To recognize their involvement, we put together the Détaillants de cœur initiative, which is aimed at both lottery and video lottery retailers in our network.

Every year, since 2022, all active Loto-Québec retailers can apply on behalf of a charitable organization they support. A random draw from all the eligible applications received is conducted at the end of the registration period. Each winning organization receives a donation of $5,000. Thanks to the Détaillants de cœur initiative, a total of $145,000 is donated to charitable organizations every year.

Employés de cœur

The generosity of Loto-Québec’s employees is evident, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Launched in the fall of 2023, the Employés de cœur initiative provides employees with an annual quota of hours during which they can volunteer for non-profit organizations. Our employees are giving back to the community—a few hours or a day at a time.

Entraide

Through the Entraide campaign, our employees and managers have been working with those in Québec’s civil service for close to 25 years to help society’s most vulnerable. Every year, Entraide collects donations and distributes them to:

These organizations work on the ground every day to help those in need, providing healthcare services and fighting social exclusion and poverty. Through creative fundraising initiatives, our entire staff show their unconditional solidarity for all Quebecers in their times of greatest need.

Fondation Les Petits Rois

The Fondation Les Petits Rois provides caring support for young adults with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, with or without autism spectrum disorders. Through its work using adapted tools and a stimulating environment, this foundation creates a setting in which these inspiring young people can blossom.

For more than five years, we’ve supported this foundation by providing supervised internships for these young adults.

Kinzo

A look at how our Qui gagne fait gagner Promotion gave back!

As part of the Qui gagne fait gagner Promotion, which took place over three Fridays in October and November 2023, Québec Kinzo halls had to choose a non-profit organization (NPO) to support. They could select an NPO dear to their heart or one already receiving financial support from their hall.

Every time a Kinzo player won one of the 18 mystery prizes ranging from $500 to $10,000, that amount was matched by Loto-Québec and donated to the hall’s chosen NPO. The NPOs chosen by Kinzo halls that didn’t crown a mystery prize winner still received $500 each.

Find out what NPO each of the 19 Kinzo halls chose.

Loto-o-suivantMC

Many charitable causes rely on the financial support of Quebecers to carry out their mission. This is why we created the Loto-o-suivant charitable lottery game. Every year, the scratch ticket version of the game crowns 50 winners, who get to take home a $10,000 grand prize and have the same amount donated to a Québec charity of their choice. What’s more, the online version of Loto-o-suivant also crowns winners all year long.

Through each new edition of the charitable lottery game, over $500,000 in donations are awarded to Québec charities.

Moisson

These days, many Quebecers are struggling to make ends meet, especially when it comes to the quality and quantity of the food the put on the table. Loto-Québec has been supporting the cause of food insecurity for several years through its partnership with the Moisson organizations, which come to the aid of communities by providing foodstuffs across Québec. We’re proud to assist them in a variety of ways in their important mission:

  • Our employees pitch in—and even compete with each other!—by collecting as many food items as possible to donate to Moisson partner organizations each year.
  • Visitors to our casinos and gaming halls can also participate in this cause through initiatives connected to Giving back is a win-win.

Opération Père Noël

The holiday season means presents for most kids, but some families are unable to provide this experience to their children. Opération Père Noël provides our employees with the opportunity to pitch in, alone or in a group, to give a gift to a child in need.
